The Office Ergonomics Certification Program offers a unique blend of ergonomic evaluation training based on current best practice with the real-world experience of instructors who work with major employers on a daily basis. The result of this unique blend of information and experience is solid skill development in a purposeful atmosphere of program development. The intended goal of the course is to prepare you to thrive as an ergonomic evaluation and solutions provider in seated and standing work environments as the employee of an enterprise or in a free-standing clinical practice.

The Matheson CEES Office Ergonomics course is a comprehensive and complete education opportunity to give you the tools to handle all office ergonomic situations.  This class has been utilized by medical providers (PT, OT, ATC, Chiropractors and Nurses), Safety Team members and company ergonomic representatives internationally to expand their roles to be able to confidentially provide ergonomic evaluations at their business and within their community.  The instructor is an entrepreneur who makes a living providing ergonomic and injury prevention services to both large and small businesses. This provides students who are looking to expand their role or business in ergonomics a unique opportunity to get their specific questions or barriers addressed.  This class will give you the confidence to be the “Ergo Guy or Girl” at your business, expand your business to include ergonomic offerings and will set the foundation for having a career in ergonomics if you choose.

Learning Outcomes

  • A detailed look at the most common office workplace injuries, why these injuries occur and what can be done to mediate the risk in the office.
  • Be able to evaluate the worker and their interface with their workstation to be able to identify risk factors that could contribute to discomfort and injury.
  • Be able to quantify these risk factors and use objective measures to justify equipment or workstation modification expenses.
  • Review some various ergonomic equipment options equipment options and when it is appropriate to recommend them.
  • Understand how to provide recommendations to modify workstations and make adjustments when there is no budget available for equipment or modifications.
  • Learn how computer user’s postures, habits and positioning can lead to discomfort and common coaching strategies to improve the way they interface with their workstation.
  • Gain information to develop injury prevention talks, office stretching programs and developing ergonomic programs with businesses.
  • Discussion around best practice for business ergonomic programing, developing or expanding your business program to include ergonomics.
  • How to expand your current role with your company to include ergonomics or ideas how to start your own business providing office ergonomic evaluations.
  • Break down hot topics in ergonomics including alternative office spaces and equipment.
  • Learn when ergonomic equipment is not appropriate and how to prevent wasteful spending on unnecessary equipment.
  • Debate the idea of sitting vs standing workstations and learn when they may be appropriate but also better understand when this is not the best practice for your customers and company.

Workshop Hours

Registration on the first day is from 8 – 8:30 a.m.
Subsequent day begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break at 12 noon and two 15 minute breaks around 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Course Approvals

AOTA CEU’s awarded based upon completion of the course in its entirety.
